The Inevitable

     Mike Miles continues to present thought-provoking graphics:

     It’s an important question. Deprived of the freebies on which they’ve subsisted, many illegal aliens, perhaps most, would turn feral. Humans aren’t immune to the predatory impulse. Illegal aliens from third-world cesspools are closer to it than most, as Tren de Aragua ought to have convinced us. Even if weren’t so, even if they were to lie down and die passively, the consequences would be unpleasant. C. M Kornbluth asked a more severe version of it in his classic story “The Marching Morons,” which is regarded as an SF classic:

     “I don’t understand! Why don’t you let them go to hell in their own way?”
     The man grimaced. “We tried it once for three months. We holed up at the South Pole and waited. They didn’t notice it. Some drafting-room people were missing, some chief nurses didn’t show up, minor government people on the non-policy level couldn’t be located. It didn’t seem to matter.
     “In a week there was hunger. In two weeks there were famine and plague, in three weeks war and anarchy. We called off the experiment; it took us most of the next generation to get things squared away again.”
     “But why didn’t you let them kill each other off?”
     “Five billion corpses mean about five hundred million tons of rotting flesh.”

     Estimates of the “illegal fraction” of the United States hover between 25 and 40 million people. There aren’t enough gravesites, and there certainly aren’t enough undertakers or crematoria. Besides, Americans are a tender-hearted sort. We’d never countenance herding them into sports stadia and mowing them down with machine guns.
