“Private Enemy #1”

The Left cannot abide superb individual achievement:

You remember how one of the Greek Dictators (they called them “tyrants” then) sent an envoy to another Dictator to ask his advice about the principles of government. The second Dictator led the envoy into a field of grain, and there he snicked off with his cane the top of every stalk that rose an inch or so above the general level. The moral was plain: Allow no preeminence among your subjects. Let no man live who is wiser or better or more famous or even handsomer than the mass. Cut them all down to a level: all slaves, all ciphers, all nobodies. All equals. [C. S. Lewis, Screwtape Proposes A Toast]

Just now, the foremost example of superb individual achievement is naturalized American citizen Elon Musk. Note how his exploits have triggered various persons on the Left:

…and no doubt others I can’t specify at the moment. Plainly Musk, the only owner of a social-media platform who refuses to bend to the Left’s agenda, threatens them big-time.

Well, he did endorse that notorious serial killer and baby molester Donald Trump for the presidency. Isn’t that a federal offense?

Remember when America sought to attract immigrants with talent and drive? Remember when we celebrated our inventors and achievers? Today, the only “safe” achievers are sports stars… and only if their politics are decidedly Leftist. Even Caitlin Clark, a hoopster who’s politically silent, is under the Left’s crosshairs. (Remember Harrison Butker?)

Standouts must all be Leftists. A non-Leftist standout is unacceptable; it implies that we must tolerate differences of opinion. You know how the Left feels about differences of opinion.

So Musk must go. But that would leave his social-media platform “uncorrected.” Were the Left to succeed in deporting, arresting, or assassinating Musk – don’t look so shocked; do you really think no one in that cult has pondered knocking him off? – what do you suppose would happen to X / Twitter?

Law professor Jonathan Turley notes that Leftists have been counseling Joe Biden to “go nuts” with the remainder of his time as president. A program of confiscation of assets deemed “vital to national security” fits into their envelope of suggestions. Do you think SpaceX would qualify?

Owing both to his achievements and to his forthright support of the Trump campaign, Musk is ever more in the public eye. I hope he has good security, as I haven’t heard of any of his enterprises perfecting the long sought “eyes in the back of the head” power. These next few weeks could prove as dangerous to him as to President Trump.

Every billionaire and multi-millionaire in the U.S. has one or more homes in safe foreign countries.  If anything bad happens they won’t have to deal with the consequences.

    1. I question whether “safe foreign countries” is a non-empty set. Governments everywhere have become unprecedentedly rapacious, especially toward high achievers.

Agreed, Fran. Epstein, Asange, anyone can be maligned, silenced or killed. There is a leftist argument that reduces to, “Shut up, if you disagree with us, and are loud or succesful enough that we can’t shout you down, in media, in your job or politically. And if you don’t stop, we’ll stop you even unto your death.”

There is a reason that Hillary yelled that if Trump won they’d all go to jail. There is a reason the the FBI, DOJ and Mayorkis, et. al., are circling the wagons. It’s not just that they disagreed with a political rival.

They crossed a line. And they pray that the 50 million gun owners who disagree with them don’t cross a line.
