Just now over at Ace’s place, I saw this from commentator David Winston:
Violence directed at people, businesses and property based on political differences is the antithesis of democracy. The silence from many elected Democrats in terms of this violence has very disconcerting. Charting the direction of the country is done through elections, not using violence against fellow citizens.
I question both ends of that statement. “Democracy,” etymologically, means mob rule. Though a political democracy uses ballots to determine the will of the mob, for the mob to use violence is an even more direct way of expressing “the people’s will.” What matters isn’t the mechanism but who wins – and the Left, having definitely lost the 2024 balloting, has decided to use violence to “demand a recount.”
As has been noted so often, the United States of America is not a democracy but a constitutional federated republic. The differences between such a structure and a “democracy” become most visible when one side disdains ballots in favor of bullets.

They wear black hoodies and black masks to avoid identification and subsequent punishment when acting violently. Perhaps a large bullet hole in their chest could aid in later identification. It would deter future misbehavior as well.
But, that would be out of bounds so clearly the violent behavior is NOT really “unacceptable”.
No. Like everything else in this country, violence is only acceptable when it is committed by the left. Francis, I attempted to italicize a few words here, however once I did, everything was italicized, I couldn’t shut it off. Any tips?
I snapped to the “the antithesis of democracy,” before I moved on to the next paragraph. I immediately thought exactly what you said.
