Apply The Logical-Ethical Cement

Pascal passed the following video along to me for my contemplation:

Jordan Peterson has become a hugely important voice in the ideological war. There’s no question of his significance, nor of his reach. Why else would the Left be working so hard to destroy him? In the video above, he emphasizes responsibility as the missing element in the Right’s armory. There’s an important insight in there…but unusually for Dr. Peterson, his pronouncement isn’t quite complete.

“They’re selling rights,” he says, whereas we in the Right should be selling responsibilities.” And yes, we should…but both a conjunction and a disjunction must be discussed here that Dr. Peterson omits to address:

  1. What are rights?
  2. How are they connected to responsibilities?

The connection is both inherent and indissoluble.

As I’m about to head out to Mass, I’ll leave this here for my Gentle Readers to ponder. Perhaps I’ll address it myself a bit later.

No man was ever endowed with a right without being at the same time saddled with a responsibility. – Gerald W. Johnson

  1. Let’s all accept for a moment that a divine origin granted us our rights. Hiring professional third parties to guarantee one’s rights may work where the servants are known and their number is small. But even there, it is one’s responsibility to see they perform as expected. The same can be said for a small community. The mayor is known by the majority and he knows who has been hired and the number is small enough for him to carry out the responsibility implied in his station.

But once the community grows beyond a certain size, the faces become anonymous and the ability for individuals to responsibly oversee the distant governing body becomes quite a burden, especially where society has forgotten its ethical roots. They who study history are condemned to watch those who don’t repeat it.

The number of sheriffs in overly large counties who were not woke have been driven out one way or another. Wonder why no longer. Cherish your local ones.

We have friends who winter in Florida from Canada.  They tell me about how bad things are there and I am just aghast.  The latest one is if you have rented your house out you cannot put it on the market to sell for somebody to live in or you can be sued by the current renter.  They are short on housing and this is the Communist Dominion of Canada’s fix for that.  The sad thing here is the renter is a sister-in-law who they had been giving a good rate to “help her out”.

Canada sucks along with little Fidel.  I had not realized until our Canadian friends told us that Margaret Trudeau hooked up with Fidel thereby creating lil Fidel and that was what precipitated the divorce from Pierre.  Commies through and through.  Even looks like the commie.
