I’ve test ridden the H-D Pan American, and it’s a tremendous motorcycle. I want one.
But if I had my druthers, I think I would return to a bike that had one of these.
Don’t ask me to explain. If you know, you know.

The last true Harleys were made in the early 90’s. The Evolution motor was still your basic OHV V-twin, an ultra refined version of the old knucklehead from the ’30s. Now they’re so glopped up with EPA crap that they might as well be Kawasaki’s. I had a ’91 FXSTS (Softail Springer). It was simple, and easy to strip all the add on California AQMD garbage off the bike. They made it that way. I crossed the continent ten times on that beast without a hitch. The appeal of a Harley Davidson was that it was actually a primitive machine refined to near perfection. Now? eh… But what the hell. I’m done with motorcycles anyway. I rode a lot, and never so much as scratched my knee. Only one way to keep that record intact. Let it go.

I’m not looking forward to the day I have to make that choice. Don’t know if I can, to be honest.
