     Let’s start with something light:

FWP: How on earth did the word “lumber” pick up the secondary meaning of “to move slowly and clumsily?”
CSO: What makes you so sure that wasn’t the original meaning?

FWP: Well…all right, then how on Earth did the word “lumber” pick up the secondary meaning of “a piece of wood?”
CSO: Because of how slowly the Ents move!
FWP: (groans)

2. The Hate-Whites Campaign.

This article from Information Liberation demonstrates the depth of the Left’s need to hate someone:

From Wokeness Studies scholar Zach Goldberg:

1/n If 2016 was the year white liberals started rating non-whites more warmly than whites, 2020 was the year they started.. a) rating whites as more violent than blacks pic.twitter.com/zLiEFFh876

     — Zach Goldberg (@ZachG932) September 2, 2022

Please read it all. It’s mostly a series of tweets. Every opinion cited is in direct contradiction to the objective, easily observable facts. And ponder this: How deep does a man’s need to hate have to be to get him to hate himself? The great majority of those on the Left are as white as I am!

3. “Whom The Finger Of Allah Hath Touched.”

One of my fiction idols, the late, great Robert A. Heinlein, wrote in his Future History series about “the Crazy Years:” a period in which mass irrationality had come to dominate the public American landscape. Yet his stories of that time were mild compared to what we see around us today. Have a few guaranteed-non-fattening slices:

  1. Transgender evangelists spoiling for a fight…in Utah!
  2. A thoroughly discredited has-been claiming that We in the Right are the ones who want a civil war.
  3. Yet another case of prolonged Hollywood exposure driving an innocent young woman off the rails.

Sometimes comment is completely unnecessary. Well, maybe a little:

  1. A glare, a menacing rise from one’s seat, and a growl of “What the fuck is your problem?” will often avert an unpleasant encounter of this kind. If not, there’s always fisticuffs.
  2. We speak here of the lowest imaginable form of celebrity: one with absolutely nothing to offer anyone.
  3. Jennifer Lawrence is a fine actress, but Hollywood has plainly ruined her. She should have spent less time with Harvey Weinstein and Amy Schumer, and more with Jim Caviezel and Chris Pratt. She could have learned something worth knowing.

4. Death Cult Speculations.

Beloved Co-Conspirator Pascal has on many occasions urged me to emphasize the “Death Cults” motif. It is to him and equally beloved Co-Conspirator Linda Fox that credit for this little tome should go. And indeed, there are easily observed, easily identified forces that are nudging Mankind toward extinction by is own hand.

This morning, in an email recommending this podcast — which, unfortunately, I cannot play, as I refuse to use any Apple product – he comments thus:

Sachs explains the blowback he received once he began discovering the task force he headed was totally infiltrated.

Fully involved in the development of this virus as a bioweapon – Fauci, Baric, Daszak and the CIA.

I don’t want to believe it – I’m desperate for some sign that, as bad as the Usurper Regime demonstrably is, it doesn’t intend our extermination – but the evidence is accumulating to a terrifying height. Especially in light of the contemporaneous accumulation of evidence that the “vaccines” are decidedly more harmful than the COVID-19 virus itself.

Form your own opinions, but as for me, no one will get near me with that crap unless I run out of ammo…and I have a lot of ammo.

5. Relations Between The Sexes.

The institution of marriage, which evolved for the protection of each party from the other’s caprices, has been under assault for quite a while now. In commenting on the matter, SteveF at Cold Fury makes some penetrating observations, the key to which is this one:

“Women control access to sex. Men control access to marriage.”

This is a special case of an important principle of interaction: the ability to say “no” confers the ultimate degree of control. Yes, women control access to sex…but today, they no longer reserve sex for the married state. Men retain the ability to decline marriage, which implies that the desire for sex – with women, that is – is no longer a deciding factor in their decisions about marriage.

Despite that, and despite the well-documented hazards, men continue to marry women. Indeed, we retain the initiative in decisions marital and are almost always the ones to make the move toward marriage. It’s something that should inspire more thought than it usually gets, especially as contemporary marriage is so heavily slanted in the woman’s favor. Another powerful one-liner from SteveF:

One should never enter into a contract with someone who will be rewarded for breaking it.

While the man retains control over whether or not to marry, the woman’s incentives to marry are far more imperative. This is especially true if she wants children – and most women do.

Things are bad. Indeed, it’s not clear how they could get worse. Combine it with the other factors that have arisen to discourage marriage and childbearing – especially among whites – and it begins to look as if the Death Cults will win after all.

Solving the mystery of fanatical opposition to Trump.

MAGA cannot be purchased. It is a political outlook that seeks only to enhance the best interests of the American people, regardless of consequence for the multinationals or foreign beneficiaries of globalist U.S. economic policy. Unfortunately, as a result, all of the beneficiaries are aligned to make sure the MAGA economic policy outlook is extinguished. There are literally trillions at stake. This reality underpins the opposition to Donald Trump.

When you understand why the national economic outlook of the President is so important, you can also understand why every political candidate is told not to discuss it by the handlers and campaign managers who are essentially selling their candidate to a millionaire and billionaire donor class who do not want an America-First economic policy agenda.

* * * *

For decades middle America was begging the McConnell’s, Ryans, Boehners, Romney’s, McCain’s, Bushes, et al, to make America-Fist economic policies their priority. All of our shouts for help fell upon deaf political ears plugged by corporate donations and influence. Our communities were literally collapsing around us (see rust belt), and yet no national politician would do anything of consequence.

By the time Donald Trump arrived decades of frustration exploded in an eruption of massive applause because he was articulating the central economic issue that was being ignored by the professional political class. The America-First agenda is the restoration agenda.

The Undiscussed Nationalization

Just a quick thought this morning, as I’ve decided to give today to people and things fictional. Fiction is a restful place for me. While our nation swells with lunacy and strife, I can compel my characters and the consequences of their actions to make sense.

Ever since the World Wars, the attention of the nation has been almost exclusively on developments in national politics and policy. That was to be expected: as Washington D.C. sucked the authority out of our state and local governments, our attention followed the usurped powers to focus on their usurpers. What good would it do to watch state and local executives and legislators, when they no longer have significant influence over our lives and fortunes? “The action” is plainly on Capitol Hill and in the White House.

That implicitly gave the national media immense influence over national opinion. Few of us can personally monitor the mandarins of Washington. To learn what they’re about, we turn to those who send reporters there. Even today, when the majority of us have awakened to the media’s biases, they can sway a sufficiently large fraction of Americans to determine majority sentiment on most political issues.

The two mega-powers are closely coupled. While Big Government is what gives Big Media their influence, Big Media are essential in maintaining Big Government’s hold on our attention. That holds for both the Legacy Media and the New Media. If either could be neutered, the other would badly undermined as well – and when it comes to the media, We the Great Unwashed hold the deciding vote.

CNN has already discovered what happens to an outlet that loses the majority of its viewers. Other outlets should be made to feel the heat as well. “Irish Democracy” wielded against the titans of the media could and should be coupled to our resistance of the Usurper Regime and its campaign to transform us all into rightless serfs. To discontinue your TV subscription and your Facebook account would both be strokes in the cause of freedom. Besides, there’s plenty to watch on Acorn and BritBox, especially if you like detective stories.

appears to be remarkably similar to

“That Can’t Be True!”

The title phrase is a reaction, elicited from some, to the most “extreme” news. It’s the verbal equivalent of putting hands over eyes and screaming “Make it go away!” And sane Americans are having it ever more frequently.

However, it’s dangerous. What makes it dangerous is the word can’t, which is always a chancy thing to say. As we’ve been bombarded with seeming impossibilities these past few years, you’d think we’d have learned not to use can’t without a spot of reflection and deliberation. Have a brief selection of can’t evocations from recent events:

  • Gasoline at $5.00 per gallon?
  • No baby formula in the supermarket?
  • Tampon dispensers in men’s restrooms?
  • 5 million new illegal aliens in only two years?
  • The Army forcing male soldiers to parade in high heels?
  • Drag queen story hours barricaded by armed AntiFa members?
  • Prisoners in “women’s” prisons being impregnated…by other prisoners?
  • Employees being fired for refusing to accept vaccination with an experimental drug?
  • The best president since World War II defeated by a dementia sufferer who didn’t even campaign?
  • That same dementia sufferer making a public statement in which he declares half the country “a threat to the soul of the nation?”

That can’t be true, right? Not in America. You know your country better than that!

     Yeah, right.

***

Can’t is a reaction born of what I’ll call our experiential sense. Over the years, a man’s experiences, supplemented by reports from others he knows and trusts, cause him to build up an inarticulate sense for the bounds of the possible. He constructs an envelope within which the report of an event must fall to be credible. He dismisses anything that violates that envelope, usually without even pausing to look at the evidence or reflect on the reliability of the reporter.

But the experiential sense is itself untrustworthy. It’s too personal, and too dependent upon the limited sensitivity and scope of our senses. Anyone with a little knowledge of physics will tell you. Filaments that are one molecule thick? Conductors with zero resistance? Light bent by gravity? Particles with zero rest mass? Pull the other one; it’s got bells on.

Time to repeat a favorite Heinlein quote:

Logic is a feeble reed, friend. “Logic” proved that airplanes can’t fly and that H-bombs won’t work and that stones don’t fall out of the sky. Logic is a way of saying that anything which didn’t happen yesterday won’t happen tomorrow. [From Glory Road]

As badly wrong as logic can take us when misapplied or founded on mistaken premises, the experiential sense can take us much, much further.

     Beware the can’ts.

***

As politics, the foulest of all occupations, finds a use for every vile and horrible thing, it’s found a use for the can’ts. Briefly, a rapid succession of events that evoke the can’t response is capable of numbing those subjected to them, paralyzing them by the seeming impossibility of what they’re experiencing. The underlying mechanism is subtle. Our experiential sense is accompanied by a conviction that as events proceed around us, we will know what to do. But that conviction fails in the face of a can’t development. Once we have been englobed by such events, the conviction is inverted.

One of Philip K. Dick’s best novels, Flow My Tears, The Policeman Said, offers us this powerful passage:

He felt toward Kathy a certain strange cynical trust, both absolute and unconvincing; one half of his brain saw her as reliable beyond the power of the telling of it, and the other half saw her as debased, for sale, and fucking up right and left. He could not put it together into one view. The two images of Kathy remained superimposed in his head.
Maybe I can resolve my parallel conceptions of Kathy before I leave here, he thought. Before morning. But maybe he could stay even one day after that…it would be stretching it, however. How good really are the police? he asked himself. They managed to get my name wrong; they pulled the wrong file on me. Isn’t it possible they’ll fuck up all down the line? Maybe. But maybe not.
He had mutually opposing conceptions of the police, too. And could not resolve those either. And so, like a rabbit, like Emily Fusselman’s rabbit, froze where he was. Hoping as he did so that everyone understood the rules: you do not destroy a creature that does not know what to do.

The viewpoint character, Jason Taverner, a man literally designed from conception for high intelligence and ability, has found himself transported by a lethal assault into a realm of irreality: an environment in which his experiential sense has been violated at every turn, for a whole day. The girl Kathy had seemed normal and credible. Yet she proved wholly disconnected from the events of her own life. He had never before feared the police, largely because of his celebrity status. Yet in the irreal landscape to which he was relocated, they treat him as a suspicious nobody. These and other can’t events have paralyzed his will. Previously a competent and self-assured person, he no longer believes he’ll know how to cope with what could come next.

Philip K. Dick was famed for his nightmare fiction, and Flow My Tears is Dick at his best. I recommend it unreservedly. It has lessons for us in our current nightmare.

***

A great many Americans have been partially paralyzed by the march of the can’ts. Others have decided that their best choice is to arm themselves, stockpile necessities, and “hunker down.” Still others are mired in such disbelief that they cannot act at all.

None of this is by accident. Your experiential sense is being used against you. By violating it at every possible turn, they who seek your subjugation are battering you into a state of acquired helplessness.

It’s easy to say Marshal your willpower! Resist! It’s a lot harder to answer the automatic and quite understandable reply: “But how?”

Don’t look at me. I have no answer for you.

***

What has me fulminating in this fashion? Oh, nothing much. Just a spot of corporate policy perversity:

Until now, the abortion debate has largely been a political one, played out in terms of legality in the legislatures and – for almost fifty years – the courts. In the wake of Dobbs, however, expect at least part of the debate to shift from politics to economics, as certain pro-abortion actors leverage financial incentives to tilt the debate in a capitalist society that, occasionally, likes to appeal to “social justice.”

Since Dobbs, leading companies have tripped all over each other to announce that they would happily fund their employees’ abortions, even to pay for travel to states allowing prenatal killing if it were banned where they were located. Not a few corporations pressured state legislatures against considering pro-life legislation. New Jersey’s Governor Phil Murphy and California’s Governor Gavin Newsom have even been touting their states as destinations for businesses to relocate to, not because of their oppressive tax structures but because both had “codified” abortion-on-demand through birth.

Yes, Gentle Reader, it’s really happening. Corporate employers are actually funding “abortion trips:” to avert the costs of maternity leave; to keep their female employees on the job; and to retain their employees’ full dedication and attention. Parents have to split their time and energy between their jobs and their families, don’t y’know. The childless experience no such pressure.

Pure, utterly amoral “bottom line” policy, made possible and encouraged by utterly amoral politics.

     Pray.

A Quick Thought

Just now, the nation is highly exercised about the Vegetable-in-Chief’s “Soul of the Nation” speech of a few days back. Why? Yes, it was a dark and threatening bit of rhetoric, but rhetoric was all it was. Why allow it to upset us?

Couldn’t we just ignore the senile old crank and his teleprompted fulminations? It would certainly be more healthful for us. It might even have a chance of coaxing his handlers a bit closer to reality.

Of course the press is a large part of the problem, but the Fourth Estate is not beyond correction. In his excellent 1974 book The B.S. Factor, Arthur Herzog recommended a technique for retraining them:

The press could be challenged to present a daily Thought Pollution Index—not that it would, but at least reporters could be encouraged to attend the Platitude Recognition Training Sessions, the object being to raise cliche-consciousness and overcome the serious problem of cliche-deafness that settles over crowds when a speaker mounts to the podium. In these sessions, platitudes will be flashed on a screen, and if they are allowed to pass unchallenged the participants will receive electric shocks from wires attached to their skulls….Audiences skilled in Platitude Recognition can deliver a crushing blow: the mass yawn. This quickly forces the speaker to take stock of himself.

Getting the press to ignore politicians’ words and focus solely on their deeds would be a tonic for the country. Among other things, it might persuade the BLEEP!ing nuisances to shut up. That alone could drop the national blood pressure by twenty points.

Astrophysicist Sir Frederick Hoyle was quite dismissive of politicians generally:

“Has it ever occurred to you, Geoff, that in spite of all the changes wrought by science–by our control over inanimate energy, that is to say–we will preserve the same old social order of precedence? Politicians at the top, then the military, and the real brains at the bottom. There’s no difference between this set-up and that of Ancient Rome, or of the first civilizations in Mesopotamia for that matter. We’re living in a society that contains a monstrous contradiction, modern in its technology but archaic in its social organization.”

That was Hoyle speaking through his fictional protagonist Dr. Christopher Kingsley, in The Black Cloud. He echoed the sentiment in his later novel Inferno. I think he had the right of it. Unfortunately, the mass media, starting with radio, have brought them into our homes, along with a large number of other irritating lowlifes we’d all be better off knowing nothing about. If we were to kick them back out, perhaps we could have peace again.

Death Cults Ascendant

You know who they are. You’ve been reading about them for years now. Today it seems that they have us at their mercy. Perhaps the best measure of the height to which they have risen is their power to silence those who oppose them:

It was revealed that Boston Children’s Hospital was promoting “gender affirming” surgeries for minors through a video series on their YouTube channel. These videos showed doctors giving details on cosmetic surgeries that have extremely high rates of complication, such a double mastectomies for healthy breasts, full hysterectomy of healthy reproductive systems, the reshaping of penile tissue to appear as the genitals of the opposite sex, and the shaping of “flaps” or pieces of flesh from arms or legs into phalluses that are then surgically added to females.

Well it didn’t take long for media to come after me for exposing these practices. NBC, for one, believed the hospital, and slammed me and others for having done the reporting at all. NPR and WaPo came out with articles claiming my recording was out of context and misinformation. They claimed the people I spoke with didn’t know and the hospital said they don’t do hysterectomies so it must not be true. A hospital would never ever lie, right? NPR, WaPo, trans activists, and other bluecheckers straight up asked Twitter to suspend me for this dangerous misinformation.

Two weeks ago it appeared they were against gender affirming hysterectomies on minors, this week they made their position clear. They are for it and just don’t want anyone knowing about it. Young girls are having their uteruses carved out and the media’s top concern is that people will find out. So they called for my suspension. A few short years ago, a journalist’s job was to research content, information, and leads to bring important news stories to the population. How times have changed. Now they just run cover for the Leftist agenda and silence those who dare oppose them. Thanks to their friends in Big Tech, they can call for their opposition to be censored.

Shocking? Appalling? Which aspect shocks and appalls you more, Gentle Reader? That a “children’s hospital” is mutilating minor children, or that the journalist who exposed that hospital is being silenced and systematically hounded for doing so?

Allow me to add a third element: there are “family physicians” who approve and encourage this monstrous practice:

     Words fail me.

***

Time was, a “children’s hospital” caught doing what’s reported above would have been besieged and burned to the ground before two days had passed. Time was, a “family physician” who admitted to such practices would have been stripped of her medical license and prosecuted. Time was, a journalist who exposed such things would have been hailed as a noble practitioner of an honored occupation.

Time was. When Americans were sane and decent and possessed a modicum of courage. Today the Death Cults have us by the throat. They’ve taken control of our governments, our schools, and our instruments of communication. He who dares to cross them swiftly discovers the breadth of their reach and the fury of their ire. Chaya Raichik could tell you.

Yet in reality, they are few! The activists number perhaps a million at most. What gives them such power that they can silence a nation – especially this nation, where freedom of expression is among our highest and most hallowed principles?

The answer is only two words long:

  • Organization;
  • Ruthlessness.

They have clubs and channels of communication dedicated to their pursuits, and they use them. They pursue their ends with the single-mindedness of fanatics. They will employ whatever means they deem suitable, including intimidation and violence, to cow anyone who raises a voice against them. And We the Normals®, however outraged we may claim to be, seldom stir our stumps in response.

When did you last read about an angry mob of parents tarring and feathering a “public” school teacher caught promoting homosexuality or transgenderism to his students? When did you last read about such parents storming a club of “gender activists?” Has it ever happened? Great God in heaven, we do nothing as they parade in the streets of our cities!

What else could we expect but that their march will continue?

***

We have had it demonstrated to us that uncritical “tolerance” is not a virtue. It’s been used to lash us into submission before some of the foulest, most life-denying practices Mankind has ever known. They who promote them have exploited our unwillingness to defend ourselves to rise to rule over us. The mildest statement of opposition to their advance is now called a “hate crime.”

The death cultists’ hostility to human reproduction is the biggest imaginable giveaway. Abortion. Condemnations of procreation as “a cancer on the planet.” Homosexuality. Transgenderism. The scowling denigrations, expressed in a myriad of channels, of women who embrace traditional motherhood. Satanism and witchcraft clubs in “public” schools. They even argue in defense of pedophilia and “post-natal abortion.” How much more blatant could they be?

     It cannot go on.

The time for “tolerance” is past. Cthulhu and his acolytes must be driven back into the darkness before the destruction becomes total.

The Speech

No, I didn’t watch or listen to it. I have a very low tolerance for political blather from anyone…well, other than myself, of course. But from the snippets I’ve been reading, it was at least as bad as We the Normals® expected it to be:

America, ladies and gentlemen, is under attack and not from our usual enemies. The threat we face tonight is existential, but it’s not coming from barefoot religious extremists living in caves.
It’s not the Chinese government. It’s not even Vladimir Putin himself, the most diabolically evil man in history. No, ladies and gentlemen, this threat is worse than all of that and it’s homegrown. As they say in the horror movies, it’s coming from inside the house. The single greatest threat to America today is Republican voters, all 75 million of them. They are Nazis and destroyers of democracy. They must be stopped. That is the message of Joe Biden’s speech. Just moments ago, he referred to MAGA forces who are apparently marshaling at Red Lobster near you, ready to take over this country. Now, to underscore how deeply Joe Biden means all of this, tonight’s address in Philadelphia is not being categorized as a campaign event ahead of the midterm elections, which is what it looks like. No. Instead, this speech has the full sponsorship of the White House.
In other words, what Joe Biden is saying right now is the official position of the entire executive branch of the U.S. government. That would include the Justice Department, the various Intel agencies and the world’s most powerful standing military. Think about that.

     — Tucker Carlson

I do hope Tucker is very careful in parking garages, going through doors, and such. But he’s hardly alone. Quoth Maura Dowling:

Biden just gave a speech aimed at making half the country hate the other half and then emphasized we are the UNITED States of America. The backdrop was all in blood red while his face was green giving the scene an eerie feeling. Bizarre!

His speech was all puff and he said nothing consequential. The only purpose of the speech was to falsely paint 75 million people who voted for Donald Trump as radical while he dismantles the democracy.

How far is he willing to go with the divisiveness and hate mongering? He has already shown he will weaponize the Justice Department.

This was a laughing stock speech with Biden trying to make this a one party state. He declared half the nation as the enemy. I don’t remember him ever saying anything this nasty about China. It’s frightening.

Maura is right to be frightened. We’re looking at exactly what she describes in the paragraph immediately above. Biden may be a vegetable, but he faithfully says what the teleprompter tells him to say. And the folks who programmed the teleprompter seek to outlaw all opposition to and dissent from the Democrat Party line. Why else would they be defending the actions of an obviously, openly corrupt Department of Justice and FBI?

Nor was there any gentling of the message by our Affirmative Action White House Press Secretary:

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Thursday doubled down on claims that Trump supporters are an “extreme” threat to the United States.

Karine Jean-Pierre’s comments on Thursday were actually more shocking.

The White House Press Secretary said if you don’t agree with the majority, you are an extremist.

“When you are not with where the majority of Americans are, then, you know, that is extreme. That is an extreme way of thinking,” Karine Jean-Pierre said.

During the Bush II Administration, the Left insisted that “Dissent is the highest form of patriotism!” How times have changed!

I’ve been pointing to the writing on the wall for long enough. I can’t keep repeating myself this way and retain any self-respect. The evidence isn’t just persuasive, it’s conclusive and damning. The Usurpers intend a Sovietized America, and current trends continuing, they’ll get their way. The only thing that could possibly stop them is you — and not by “voting harder.”

Ending DC?

Read the proposal – it’s not BAD, but I think the solution he makes is wrong.

Adam Ellwanger, in his post, suggests moving most of government – at least, that which is conducted in Washington – online. Congress, the Senate, the agencies, State Dept., among others.

Not a completely horrible solution to the issue of the inbred Washington culture, but it misses most of the point of the change.

He is under the mistaken idea that changing most of the staff jobs to be done at home will reduce the toxic interactions of the Deep State.

Don’t you believe that! In my experiences with online groups, they get MORE toxic and do LESS work, once online. They use Stack and MS Teams to get their SJW on. They become even MORE outrageous than they would be in person.

In person, it’s pretty obvious who the slackers are – they’re the ones running around creating chaos.

Online, a lot of that could be hidden, using various means to block the cameras, mute conversations, and play/gossip on their cells while putatively working.

A better solution is:

  • Move most of the agencies to Flyover Country, or similar remote places (as far as the Elite think of the locations). That would include Maine or New Jersey (Fisheries), Wyoming (Dept. of the Interior), Iowa (a great location for the Dept. of Agriculture). How about Detroit, MI for HUD? Let the bureaucrats see what their policies have created. You could probably suggest other new locations.
  • Offer a flat budgetary amount – NOT to be increased in the future. Make it sufficient to have a core group of secretaries/assistants continue to work in the Capitol – but no more than 5. All other needs have to be filled back at the location from which that person was elected – at the going rate for that state’s job market. Cap the rate for the highest paying states – no future increases in their budget. Let them live how the average employer does, when the government decides to come in with mandated pay increases – the employers have to eat the increase out of profits.
  • Sell or lease out the government building that are being vacated in Washington. In the hinterlands, the new buildings are to be leased from vacant ones – there is a lot of business space in this country – no need to build new monuments to the Elite.

ALL communication for those relocated employees is to be captured as government communication. They may NOT use a personal cell phone, except in emergencies or on their breaks.

The work output of employees will be monitored, whether working virtually or IRL, and the least productive 10% will be given their release each year. The agency or legislator’s budget will be reduced by that amount the following year.

Still Not Convinced We’re At War?

If you don’t believe me, believe him:

Joe Biden made a bizarre and passive aggressive comment targeting “brave right-wing Americans” Tuesday, during an political rally in Pennsylvania touting his latest gun grab….

Rather than attack Republicans in Congress who might oppose the initiative, Biden mocked all conservative Americans who support the Second Amendment and believe that gun rights are necessary for self-defense and as a check against a tyrannical government.

“And for those brave right-wing Americans who say it’s all about keeping Americans independent and safe, you want to fight against the country? You need an F-15, you need something a little more than a gun,” Biden told the smallish crowd in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. “No, I’m not joking,” he added, even though no one was laughing. “Think about this. Think about the rationale we use.”

This is the man who, in campaigning against the right to keep and bear arms, claimed that “No amendment is absolute,” remember? How do you think he’d react if Americans were to regard the Sixteenth Amendment that way?

But ultimately, his target isn’t our weapons. It’s We the [Semi-]Fascists who have and value them:

President Biden has finally said it – the F word. Seventy-four million Americans voted for President Donald Trump in the 2020 election. And according to Biden, support for the Trump agenda is “semi-fascism.” No American President has ever spoken of law-abiding American citizens this way. Biden is basically labeling us enemies of the state.

Ever since Trump was elected, leftist rhetoric has been shrill and hysterical. But the language has in the past year or two become much more hateful and outright menacing. Words like “treason” and “traitor” are thrown around with gleeful abandon.

The nation’s first Affirmative Action White House Press Secretary defended the Vegetable-in-Chief’s rhetoric:

WASHINGTON — With President Biden preparing to deliver a speech on the state of American democracy Thursday evening, the White House intensified its rhetorical attacks Wednesday on what it calls “MAGA Republicans” who support former President Donald Trump and share many of his views.

“The president thinks there’s an extremist threat to our democracy,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said at a press briefing in what appeared to be a preview of the president’s remarks, which he will make from Philadelphia’s iconic Independence Hall.

This was the man who, in his Inaugural Address, promised to “unite the country.”

There is no longer any trace of subtlety, nor any willingness to conciliate, nor to argue from logic and evidence, among the Usurpers. They can feel a chill wind blowing from November. They’re unsure that they can cheat enough to hold onto Congress without shredding the last rags of their claim to legitimacy. And they fear that the millions of us who are angry at what’s being done to us might just finally snap. So they’re using their figurehead, whom they can always disavow as a tragic victim of ingressive senility, to mobilize their street militias against us.

Moreover, we’re not supposed to talk about it:

Google has removed World Net Daily, the first online conservative news publication, from its search engine.

Readers who search for WND on Google are now directed to a page that issues an advisory when they click on the news site from the tech giant’s search engine.

“Warning — visiting this web site may harm your computer!” Google cautions. “Or you can continue to https://www.wnd.com/ at your own risk.”

However, that step might have been a wee bit too transparently obvious. Now, when I Google-search for “World Net Daily,” the results are exclusively sites that defame and / or condemn that venerable conservative-Christian news outlet. There’s no link to WND itself. Never imagine that Google is inept…or non-partisan.

Meanwhile, the BATF is busily banning custom triggers and solvent traps. It’s agents are making unannounced visits to the homes of law-abiding gun purchasers and threatening them with federal prosecution should they resist “F Troop’s” demands. Left-oriented organizations have tried to pressure the Visa / MasterCard consortium into tracking and publishing transactions in firearms and ammunition. And of course, the Usurpers are trying to pass a new federal gun-control bill: this one banning all semiautomatic rifles.

If all the above doesn’t amount to a declaration of war against those who oppose the Usurper Regime, what would it take?

Of course, it’s vital that we not provide them with a “provocation.” Should any Right-aligned group too large to fit in a phone booth actually do something, the Usurpers will make the war explicit. There will be midnight raids and mass arrests. There will be “re-education” camps. And there will be one hell of a lot of bloodshed, for not everyone they target will comply without resistance.

But a “provocation” – a modest, “Reichstag Fire” sort of strike – is not what they’ll get. That is, unless they stage one themselves, to justify their coup against the Constitution. Should the cheating in November be any more blatant than it was two years ago, they’ll get a second American Revolution.

     Lindsey Graham called it:

“Most Republicans, including me, believes when it comes to Trump, there is no law. It’s all about getting him. There is a double standard when it comes to Trump,” Graham said. “What happened with Hunter Biden is that the FBI weighed in to make sure the story didn’t break before the 2020 election. We now have whistleblowers at the FBI telling Sen. [Chuck] Grassley that they were told to slow down and back off Hunter Biden.”

“And I’ll say this, if there is a prosecution of Donald Trump for mishandling classified information after the Clinton debacle … there will be riots in the street,” Graham said. “If they tried to prosecute President Trump for mishandling classified information after Hillary Clinton set up a server in her basement, there literally will be riots in the street. I worry about the country.”

And despite the shushing rejoinders from conservative commentators and other Republicans, he is correct:

Lindsey Graham – an Air Force colonel who served his country, unlike the vast majority of the Ukraine flag-waiving, freshly-minted patriots of the Twitter left – told Fox News that “there literally will be riots in the street…I worry about the country” if President Donald Trump is indicted on some bullSchiff charge by the fully-fascist minions of President Kiddie Showers. Let’s leave aside that just a few months ago mostly peaceful protests were a moral imperative that even took precedence over COVID lockdowns, a sacrament of the prog establishment ranking just below infanticide. And let’s also leave aside how, suddenly, classified information – in this case, held by the guy who could declassify it on a whim – is now illegal to mishandle again. Let’s just cut to the chase – this is yet another ploy to frame Trump after multiple failed attempts to frame Trump.

     We know it.

The people trying to frame him know it.

     And the left cheers it.

Really, it could not be any other way. The Usurpers have done so much damage in less than two years that they’ve awakened the nation to its true enemies – its domestic enemies: they who are calling us “semi-fascists” from their comfortable seats in Washington. Only a fanatic leftist or a certified America-hater could cheer this tide of destruction in what was once the greatest nation in history. The rest of us want it stopped now. And as it has become painfully clear to the Usurpers that we can no longer be silenced, they’ve decided to pull Armageddon. If we decline to trigger it, they’ll do it for us. After all, they need it to complete their coup:

“We are in the midst of a coup, a preemptive coup, which is underway between Washington DC, Mar-a-Lago, and every single state in this nation. They banned a sitting president from social media, impeached him two times, jailed his supporters, and now they’ve raided his home. Then they go on TV, and they call us, they call you a fascist,” Posobiec said….

Now the New York Times Editorial Board has come out and they’re giving air cover to the preemptive coup saying ‘Go right ahead. You have to indict him for the good of the nation. For America to survive for national security to exist. We must indict this man. We must indict President Trump. The only way to stop fascism and defend democracy is to indict President Donald J. Trump, to indict his supporters, to jail them, to criminalize them and to make them otherwise unacceptable in polite society.’

“You get it? Right? You see what’s happening? Every day there’s another cancellation. Every day someone else gets banned. Libs of TikTok just got locked out on Twitter again. Understand what part of the movie you’re in,” Posobiec cautioned.

President Trump is their Emmanuel Goldstein. We, who supported him and believe his second term was stolen from him, are “the Brotherhood:” their true targets:

And our time has run out to face it.

Great Men…And Others

There are great men that the histories recognize, and there are great men whose greatness largely goes unrecognized, sometimes even unrecorded. Some fall between those two poles. Some are remembered for the wrong things.

Mikhail Gorbachev died yesterday. He’s mostly remembered for being the last potentate of the old Soviet Union. Vladimir Putin and others who miss that evil monstrosity revile him for that. Yet it’s the very reason he should be remembered and thanked.

Gorbachev’s stint in power was partly contemporaneous with the ascendancy of two other great men: Ronald Reagan, the 40th president of these United States, and Karol Cardinal Wojtyla, better known as Pope John Paul II of the Catholic Church. Gorbachev had several interactions with them. It was their tug of war for geopolitical preeminence that resulted in the breakup of the USSR and the awkward, heartening however misguided, transition of the great Communist state toward freedom and capitalism.

The interplay among those three world-historical figures puts me in mind of a passage from a fine old movie:

Quentin Roosevelt: Father, is Raisuli a real pirate?
President Theodore Roosevelt: Yes, Quentin, he’s the last of the Barbary pirates.
Quentin: Why do you say that?
Teddy: Well, the world is fast outgrowing pirates, of that sort anyway.
Quentin: Do you know any others?
Teddy: Yes. J. P. Morgan. He’s the only real pirate I know.
Alice Roosevelt: I hope he’s brought before you in chains.
Teddy: J. P. Morgan? I should hardly think so.
Alice: No, have Raisuli brought before you. I should like to see that.
Teddy: Oh, I should like to see him too, though not in chains. Let’s have the Winchester, Alice.
Alice: You like him, don’t you, Father? You like J. P. Morgan too, don’t you?
Teddy: Of course I do, Alice.
Alice: But they’re your enemies.
Teddy: Well, sometimes one finds that your enemies are a lot more admirable than your friends. You pick the road to greatness – and you’ll have that choice someday – you come to realize that the road traveled by great men is dark and lonely and lit only at intervals by other great men. And sometimes they’re your enemies. But they’re the only true luxury you have. It’s a dark and difficult road and I do not look down on anyone who has the good sense not to take it.

[John Milius, The Wind and the Lion]

Gorbachev’s greatness was best expressed in surrendering to the demands of the anti-Communist, pro-freedom insurrection led by another great man, Boris Yeltsin. Yet Gorbachev never ceased to criticize the policies of Reagan, Yeltsin, and their successors.

     Old enemies…old comrades…old friends.

The men who hold power today in the great capitals of the world, to be maximally gentle about it, are not great men. I trust I need not say anything much about Usurper-in-Chief Joseph R. Biden. Vladimir Putin is merely an opportunist who saw his chance, killed the right people, and closed an iron fist on the rule of Russia. Pope Francis, hopefully soon to vacate the Throne of Saint Peter, is a poseur whose papacy will be remembered largely for the harm his ineptitude and political biases have done to the Church.

I say these things not because there will be no great events associated with their satrapies, but because they neither made those events nor guided them in any significant fashion. They’ve merely ridden the waves – in Biden’s case, the teleprompter gave him his instructions – as tides of fortune and misfortune have swept over the realms they supposedly rule. Persons whose names we don’t know – indeed, we may never know them – have shaped those tides. Many of them deserve to swing by the neck from a lamppost.

The world-shakers of more recent vintage mostly haven’t held high offices. Their most important achievements aren’t always recognized. Some of them have done great good, while others have wrought destruction and terror. They may not be remembered as they deserve. But that’s been the case with several of the great men whose accomplishments are all around us.

  • Norman Borlaug.
  • William Shockley.
  • James Watson.
  • Theodore Maiman.
  • Nick Holonyack.
  • Paul Lauterbur.
  • Tim Berners-Lee.

Many self-promoters of far lesser achievements are better known than most of these.

That’s all. Just a few minutes’ reflection on greatness and its accompaniments. I’m not advising anyone to aspire to greatness, nor to turn away from it. But to recognize it when it becomes visible is wise, for the lives of great men are seldom easy. They can teach us things entirely apart from their achievements…including how dark and difficult their road really is.

     Have a nice day.

They Who Make War…

…shouldn’t be surprised if they get war in return. Consider the implications of Usurper figurehead Joe Biden’s declaration of war on American conservatives:

Here’s what the president told a Democratic Party fundraiser near the White House on Thursday.

“What we’re seeing now is either the beginning of the death knell of the extreme MAGA philosophy. It’s not just Trump, it’s the entire philosophy that underpins the — I’m going to say something — it’s like semi-fascism,” he said, according to a pool reporter. “This is not your father’s Republican Party. This is a different deal.”

I’ve never before seen this degree of arrogance, hatred, or political idiocy – and all at once! No doubt the teleprompter used the 72-point font. Probably boldfaced and italicized, too. And Biden, whose EEG readings are the same as a bowl of Jell-O®, read it off dutifully.

Make no mistake, Gentle Reader: The Usurpers have declared war on Us the Normals. The sentiments expressed above are entirely consistent with their program of American emasculation, impoverishment, and subjugation. The unmistakable trumpet blast that sounds the opening of active hostilities will be the indictment of President Donald Trump.

     Lindsay Graham knows it:

Senator Graham is absolutely correct. War evokes war. The trumpets will have sounded. We’ll know what’s up…and what we must do. After that, anyone who still thinks we can vote our way out of this should find somewhere to hide.

But let’s remember that a significant number of Republicans are tacitly on the Usurpers’ side:

A Republican strategist [Susan Del Percio] criticized Republican South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham on Monday for warning about riots breaking out if authorities arrest former President Donald Trump….

“All I can think of is someone must’ve dropped Lindsey Graham on his head this weekend because there is no way this is acceptable discussion for any U.S. senator. But let me just add to that. Even if you want to look through the political lens, this is horrible for the Republican Party,” she said. “The Democrats only need to persuade 15%-20% of Independents and Republicans to even gain seats in the House or the Senate, rather, and this is only going to help them.”

Clearly, Miss Del Percio thinks we can vote our way out of this. Well, “political strategists” have been deluded before. Worse, important Republicans have believed them. Someone told John McCain he could take a month off from his 2008 campaign for president, and McCain believed it.

But Senator Graham is correct. If Donald Trump is indicted, there will be riots. There will be bloodshed, for the Usurpers will deploy armed men with automatic weapons and free-fire Rules of Engagement against them. That’s how serious they are about retaining power.

War evokes war. We don’t want it. We’d move heaven and earth to avert it. But should the indictment materialize as so many expect – indeed, as the New York Times editorial board has demanded! – the time for open, flying-lead warfare will have come. I hope your powder is dry, Gentle Reader.

An Institution, Its Functions, And Its Organization

I have said at other times that a church is necessarily a conservative institution. Its first duty is to conserve its theological core, for from that, all its other doctrines and pronouncements must flow. A church that discards or casually alters its core, or permits it to be altered or ignored by those who claim to speak in its name, is on the highway to dissolution.

The Catholic Church, the oldest of the Christian churches from which all the others have fissioned, is in danger of several dramatic changes to its doctrines, owing to the occupancy of the Throne of Saint Peter by Jorge Cardinal Bergoglio and his many appointments of new cardinals. To the best of my knowledge, the Catholic theological core, which is neatly summarized in the Nicene Creed, is not yet in danger…but when radicals are in the power seats, anything is possible. Indeed, one’s worse imaginings are more likely to be realized than one’s better ones.

Today at The Catholic Thing, Robert Royal writes thus:

For anyone in a country well advanced into postmodernity, the newer Church reforms suggest the distribution of responsibilities via what is essentially a neo-Marxist perspective – i.e., questions of power and the distribution of power among currently favored social groups (women, racial minorities, LGBT+). To embrace that perspective, however, is to join the dying world in a delusion. Unequal distribution of power is not necessarily justice. It may even be a requirement in an institution like the Church. The way the world seeks equity is merely a playing of one power off against another. The Church is in a different business, the pursuit of truth, (true) justice, and holiness.

If this is so – and I know far less than Mr. Royal about what the current “extraordinary consistory” is currently contemplating, though its convocation by the blatantly political, rapidly aging Pope Francis makes me massively suspicious – then the Church is in danger. If the Church is in danger, so are Catholics worldwide. If Catholics are in danger, can the rest of world Christianity deem itself safe and secure?

It could be a while before the consistory produces definite results. I’ll do my best to stay abreast and report on them. Other interested parties – and if I may paraphrase an old commercial, you don’t have to be Catholic – should consider doing likewise.

Conversations

     Overheard at a local tavern:

1st Guy: What time’s the AA Meeting?
2nd Guy: Three.
1st Guy: (glances at wall clock) We better get goin’. Sal’s bringing the doughnuts.
2nd Guy: The chocolate cream ones?
1st Guy: Yeah.
2nd Guy: (slams down his drink) Don’t wanna miss them!

As a friend of mine once said, “Years from now, when we remember this, we’ll smile nervously, mumble something irrelevant, and change the subject.” (No, I am not a member of Alcoholics Anonymous. Too many people at the meetings know me.)

Pearls of expression.

“The skyrocketing electricity prices are now exposing, for different reasons, the limitations of our current electricity market design,” von der Leyen said in a speech at the Bled Strategic Summit in Slovenia, pointing out what has been obvious for years to those who warned repeatedly that Europe should probably not take make its energy policy based on the idiotic ravings of a self-absorbed, petulant, Scandinavian teenager. “It was developed under completely different circumstances and completely different purposes.”

Ah yes, it’s the “circumstances and purposes” that are at fault, not Europe’s catastrophic “green” push over the past decade that left the continent at the mercy of Putin [gasp, choke, gag] . . . .

A Strong Sense Of Confidence?

We know – those of us who’ve been around, at least – that that’s always an invitation to a visit from the Flying Purple Shaft:

Governor Kathy Hochul is taking a page out of Charlie Crist’s book and alienating voters. Yesterday Hochul, who is running for reelection against GOP pick Lee Zeldin, told Republicans living in New York that they should just leave.

This Cuomoette-without-the-political-acumen sounds utterly confident that New York State’s election machinery, which is probably as corrupt as any in these United States, will hand her victory in November no matter who shows up at the polls. Either that, or she’s already resigned to being booted out of the Governor’s Mansion and has leased a flat in Rats’ Ass, Nebraska for her retirement years. No politician slags off millions of voters without being possessed by total confidence, total surrender, or a prince of Hell.

Hochul is perhaps the strangest person ever to assume the governor’s office in the Empire State. Her attitude toward New Yorkers’ rights and well-being appears to be wholly derisive. She can’t open her mouth without thrusting her foot into it. Where’s the occupationally required low cunning required to keep a high public office?

I suppose she’s just following in the Cuomos’ footsteps. Way back when, Mario Cuomo, having proposed a taxpayer-funded system of “Liberty Scholarships” for “the poor,” was confronted at a public appearance by a working-class mother who protested that another increase in state taxes – this one to fund scholarships for other mothers’ children – would make it impossible for her to send her own son to college. Cuomo’s reply? “Shame on you.”

Never imagine that a New York Democrat possesses a sense of shame himself. There hasn’t been a decent, moral Democrat in the Governor’s Mansion in Albany since Al Smith. Given the state of the state, we’re unlikely ever to have one again.

Third-Party Forgiveness

Joseph Sobran once composed an instructive parable that went something like this: Davis is listening to Jones speak of some injustice done to him by Smith. Davis waits until Jones runs down, and then says, “Oh, that’s all right. I forgive Smith for what he did to you.”

How do you suppose Jones would react to Davis’s proclamation?

Yeah. Me too. Davis has no authority by which he could exonerate Smith. He’s not Jones, the offended party whose right it is – if he so wishes – to forgive those who have harmed him. He certainly isn’t God. Jones would be affronted or worse by Davis’s assumption of authority.

We understand such things without having to reason them out step by step. But apparently the notion that only Jones has the temporal power to forgive Smith is opaque to those on the Left. Either that or they don’t care at all.

They might care if they were Jones, and Smith were someone who owes them money and refuses to pay up. But when the roles are reversed, Leftists applaud a Davis who’ll free them from obligation to Jones.

The past year and a half have been rife with third-party forgivenesses. The Joneses have been landlords, creditors, and others to whom various Smiths have obligated themselves. Davis, of course, has been the Usurper-captured federal government, which has blithely dispensed its forgiveness, whether temporary or permanent, to Smithian debtors of several varieties.

Really, this is all a decent man needs to know to condemn all such federal absolutions. If we were speaking of a state government, they would not occur, for the Constitution itself forbids a state government to “impair the obligations of contracts.” But the Founding Fathers didn’t think to forbid Washington from doing any such thing. They probably assumed that as the power to interfere in obligations between private citizens and private organizations doesn’t appear in Article I or Article II, the subject would never come up.

     Surprise, surprise.

The Ninth Pillar of Economic Wisdom, courtesy of the American Economics Foundation, runs thus:

Debt is always paid:
If not by the borrower, then by the lender.

Neither Congress nor the President nor any court can “forgive” a debt, as if such a ukase would make the debt vanish. They can transfer a debt from the proper debtor to an improper and wholly innocent one, but that’s all. In the case of the “educational loans” – many of which have not purchased educations worthy of the name – there are two possible “replacement debtors:”

  1. The financial institutions that granted the loans;
  2. You, me, and our posterity.

The Usurpers have quietly chosen us as the fall guys.

How else could it be done? Debts are always paid. If the original borrower doesn’t pay them, someone else must. As the federal government, which has arrogated all authority over educational finance unto itself, is the original creditor, the federal government is “on the hook” for the money. But Washington’s funding comes from our pockets, whether by taxation or the creation of new currency and credit: i.e., inflation. So We the Helpless, many of whom have never seen the inside of a college classroom, are stuck with the bill.

The Left is just fine with that. Delirious with joy, actually. Not only are they, with their “social welfare,” “gender studies,” and “black history” degrees, some of the most egregious debtors; it also fits nicely into their Leninist campaign to destroy the capitalist order:

“We will crush the bourgeoisie between the twin millstones of taxation and inflation.”

It’s a done deal. There’s no going back. Both Houses of Congress have passed the “Inflation Reduction Act,” and sure as the sun rises in the East, the Vegetable-in-Chief will sign it. So we’d better brace ourselves for yet another round of tax increases and further deterioration of the dollar.

“There is a deal of ruin in a nation,” wrote Adam Smith. But then, Smith lived and wrote at a time when money was hard, backed by gold and silver. Also, governments weren’t quite as obnoxious as they are today. And of course, in that era far fewer people ever contracted a debt: effectively none did so to finance a college degree. Today…? How many more such burdens can the U.S., already groaning under the depredations of the “pandemic” just behind us – which the Usurpers are determined to prolong or recreate – accept before our economy ceases to function?

“Brace for impact.” – Captain Chesley L. Sullenberger.
